Reunion & Co is the glossy new kid on the block. In a strip awash with breakfast options (and arguably one of the best just a few doors down), this little café has some pretty big shoes to fill. Located down the Burnley end of Bridge Road, Reunion & Co sits in prime position amidst the café scene of the constantly evolving shopping and foodie strip.

The staff are super friendly and bubbly, and the décor is surprisingly calming thanks to the focus on bringing the outdoors inside with plenty of natural light. Together with the light there’s plenty of greenery to keep things feeling fresh, with the hanging greenery in the front window creating a beautiful feature over the communal table.

A narrow high bench running along the back wall is perfect for those diners wanting some alone time, while the rest of the tables are clustered in small intimate settings. Coffee is by Allpress Roast and all current coffee fads are catered for thanks to the addition of almond milk and matcha latte options. Healthy cold pressed juices are available for those ‘cleansing’ or trying to erase the damage of the night before, as well as smoothies chock full of ingredients like spinach, banana and dates.

The brekkie menu reads beautifully, catering to those with straightforward tastes looking for standard items like smashed avocado or eggs Benedict, plus a couple of surprises for the more adventurous types. Crowd favourites include the local pine mushroom dish served on olive bread with chili, walnuts and goats curd. Fortunately for Reunion but unfortunately for us, it was all sold out on our visit!

Reunion’s Bircher muesli is more than fair compensation though, soaked in coconut milk rather than fruit juice and served with poached pear, pistachio and strawberry – it’s a great choice for those looking for a low sugar option. If you’re in the mood for dessert before breakfast, you may as well give in and order their bread and butter pudding, served with a trio raisin syrup, raspberries, double cream and zingy lemon balm.

Heading towards lunchtime you can expect a turn towards the good old US of A, with a tidy range of bagels with fresh fillings on offer together with classics such as the Reuben or New Yorker. The pulled pork brioche roll also looked particularly delicious.

We’re glad Reunion & Co has been brave enough to stand up as a challenge to the flooded Richmond brunching market. With such a promising debut, we would love to see what else they come up with.
