Bang Bang is a new Indochine-inspired café and bar that combines the exotic with the eccentric to form a leafy, urban escape.

Led by the Riverland Group, who are responsible for breathing life back into iconic venues such as Boatbuilder’s Yard and Pilgrim Bar, the venture will be headed by business partners Richie Ludbrook and Dave Sharry. This time the pair have reinvigorated a rifle club premise just off Glenhuntly Road. Despite the café’s name, diners can rest assured there’ll be no guns going off nearby – the club has been long defunct.

“Having previously operated a business in the area, I’m pleased to be re-connecting with many people from the local community. It’s particularly exciting to be doing so in such an iconic building, one that we’re helping to bring back to life,” says Dave.

The kitchen will be run by the former head chef of Longrain, Matthew Dunbar, who has brought a heavy South-East Asian influence to the plate after this recent travels. Highlights so far include the turmeric omelette, which has crunchy bean shoots, BBQ pork and prawns, as well as a few different variations of congee.

Bang Bang will open February 1st, offering everything from a satisfying all day breakfast menu to night-time bar snacks. The South-East Asia flavours have been combined with a French influence for dishes such as black sticky porridge with coconut broth, smoked trout, prawn and spring onion congee or confit duck leg with pomelo and peanuts. Cocktail offerings are kept ripe and refreshing, highlighted by flavours of fruit, herbs and aromatics.

Bang Bang is operating from early to late, seven days a week, making it a perfect stop off for brunch or after work cocktails.
